Easy, DC! This is the second announcement today that actually made me happy.
As reported earlier by USA Today, writer Jeff Lemire (Animal Man, Trillium) and artist Mike McKone (Avengers Academy, Teen Titans) will be launching Justice League United with a zero issue in April 2014. This also means the end to Justice League of America with the end of the Forever Evil event. The book will be a more cosmic-focused book that will bounce between Canada which will have the home base of this team and the farthest reaches of the galaxy.
The team line-up is, while I kind of wish it was more diverse ethnically, interesting. It consists of the Martian Manhunter, Animal Man, Green Arrow, Stargirl, Supergirl (Looking positively Un-Red Lantern-like, which is a positive in my book), Hawkman, Adam Strange (making his debut in the New 52) and a new, superpowered Cree teenager from the area in Canada where the JLU’s base is.
Jeff Lemire briefly described the series as one that he hopes will bridge the Earth with the greater parts of the DC Universe, describing settings as Rann and Thanagar as well as stories taking place in the Canadian wilderness.
Personally, it has been awhile since there has been news from DC that has genuinely interested me. I am also a massive sucker for these movie poster-esque covers such as this McKone variant for Issue #1. While it may be suspect that this is coming out while Guardians of the Galaxy is riding high on the other side of the isle, it won’t stop me from giving this a look. It has a great writer and a wonderful artist and, sometimes that is all you need.
