More Batman News At NYCC: The reins of “Detective Comics” have been handed over and a special issue Detective Comics #27!!

Batman-fmWith 2014 being the 75th anniversary of Batman, DC comics has been announcing some great Batman news at NYCC. We told you about the new weekly title Batman: Eternal. Now the reins of “Detective Comics” have been handed over to Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato, the creative team that relaunched “The Flash” two years ago. They seem to be really leaning on the Detective side of things:

“We want to bring him closer to his roots and be more of a street-level type of hero,….His super-heroics will still be present, but the investigative part of Batman will be at the forefront.”

Brian Buccellato went on to talk about how they are going to approach the Bat-universe:

“There is a perception that Francis and I are best suited for ‘lighter fare’ because of our run on the vibrant, fast-moving world of Barry Allen. But we also have a gritty and dark side that we will tap into as we get into the mind of the Dark Knight,” he says.

“Stylistically, we will use the tools in our toolbox to capture what we think the Bat-universe looks and feels like. Gotham won’t look like Central City, so you won’t be seeing all the bright reds, oranges and yellows that defined Flash’s world.”

detective-comics27Also announced today, there will be a special issue Detective Comics #27. We all know the original issue #27 of Detective Comics was the first comic to feature Batman.
