Valiant Enters Year Three with the “Valiant First” Initiative

Valiant Entertainment has released information discussing their line for 2014. Starting in May, they will be releasing a new #1 each month in what they dub the “Valiant First” initiative. However, Valiant is intending to keep its line at a relatively stable 8-10 series published at once. This includes mini-series.

The new series that will be produced are:

  • Rai #1 by Matt Kindt (Mind MGMT) and Clayton Crain (X-Force), following the adventures of the protector Rai in 41st Century Japan. May 2014.
  • Armor Hunters #1 by Robert Venditti (Green Lantern) and Doug Braithwaite (Journey Into Mystery) which will begin Valiant’s summer event. June 2014.
  • Armor Hunters: Bloodshot #1 by Joe Harris (X-Files: Season Ten) and Trevor Hairsine (Judge Dredd) July 2014.
  • Armor Hunters: Harbinger #1 by Joshua Dysart (Unknown Soldier) and Robert Gill (Batgirl) which will see the return of some faces from Harbinger Wars. July 2014.
  • The Delinquents #1 Co-Written by Fred Van Lente and James Asmus as their series protagonists, Archer & Armstrong and Quantum & Woody respectfully, with art by Kano (Swamp Thing). August 2014.
  • The Death-Defying Dr. Mirage #1 by Jen Van Meter (JSA All-Stars) and Roberto De La Torre (Shadowman). September 2014.

Now, we’ve all made fun of DC’s New 52 and Marvel’s All-New Marvel NOW initiatives and it is easy to snark at this as well. However, even though I trade-wait their books, Valiant has been putting out some extremely high-quality books all around. I highly recommend Archer & Armstrong, Harbinger and everything that I’ve seen of Unity looks great. Unity may be more important if you’re going to grab Rai because it looks like Matt Kindt may be setting things up in his 21st century book that will impact his 41st century book. I cannot wait.
