Weekly Comic Pull List with Balrok: Dec. 18th 2013

Our pal, Balrok del Cavo brings us his weekly comic pull list from Heroes and Villains Comics.  I’ve learned two things about the guy now, he must read FAST and Creepy KOFY Movie Time must be treating him pretty good to be buying all these books Wink

Hey everybody it’s old pal Balrok! Now if you’re anything like me you CAN NOT wait to get the new books!!! Now that Heroes & Villains’ Comics is the official Comic Shop of CKMT I’m going to swing by and tell ya what I can’t wait to read this week!!

saga 17SAGA #17 – I really wish I had the words to do this book justice. The universe building, the wholly formed characters, the huge grand scale of the story that being told on the intimate scale of a young couple and their infant baby. Brian K Vaughn once again proving his amazing ability to tell stories that could only be in comics, puts this on top of the pull list every month and a gigantic smile of anticipation on my mug!

EAST OF WEST #8 – Another bit of Hickman goodness. In a twisted vision of the future where man has made many different choices the world more resembles a mix of spaghetti western mad max and kung fu movie. The horsemen of the apocalypse have been reborn except death who remained from their last appearance and has become gun slinging badass leading his team to find his son. Really that is the tip of the gonzo iceberg. eastofwest_08-1

THE MASSIVE #18 – It’s a theme I keep talking about but the thing that impresses me most about the great writers is the ability to build a world, with characters and character and an organic feel to it no matter how out of the ordinary it is. Brian Wood (DMZ – READ IT!!!) has built a world overrun by natural disasters. Countries have fallen and society has reverted to tribes and warlords. The 9th wave was a conservation group dedicated to protecting the seas non-violently, but in the new world order the former mercenary leadership find keeping their mission more and more difficult as they face trouble from outside and inside as they search for THE MASSIVE the mother ship that remains just a hope.

SCARLET SPIDER #25 – The end of what has been a really fun ride of a book. All of the power none of the responsibility was the premise and watching Kaine develop into a truly interesting character and one I’d like to see more of…somewhere. (ftr 26 might be the last but either way this book deserves a shout out!)

SECRET AVENGERS #13 – I’ll say this every month, this is what agents of shield should be! secret avengers 13

SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #24 – Twice a month for a year and a half this book has delivered the goods in a way that Spider-Man never has…and I love it!! Go Spider-Ock!!!
