G33K-HQ: When did you start cosplaying?
Agent Topanga: I started cosplaying in 2007 when my boyfriend took me to my very first anime convention.
G33K-HQ: What was your favorite character to cosplay as?
Agent Topanga: Currently I love cosplaying as Dr. Girlfriend/Dr. Mrs. The Monarch from the Venture Brothers. Along with loving her kick-ass personality, her wardrobe really appeals to me.
G33K-HQ: What first attracted you to cosplay?
Agent Topanga: I’ve never been a very ‘fashionable’ person but what first caught my eye were the beautiful, intricate costumes I saw some people wearing. I love how cosplayers can completely transform themselves into anyone they want to be. I also loved seeing how happy and passionate everyone was about who they’re dressed up as.
G33K-HQ: What is your favorite part of doing cosplay?
Agent Topanga: Being able to share my obsessions with my friends, and totally transforming into characters I deeply love and relate to.
G33K-HQ: What conventions/events will you be at this year?
Agent Topanga: Currently I’m too broke to travel out of state so all the cons I attend are local; Dragon*Con, MomoCon and Anime Weekend Atlanta.
G33K-HQ: What was the first con you went to?
What was your general reaction to it? Momocon was my first con and I was absolutely delighted! I felt like I was in Disney World, surrounded by all of these characters, waiting to get their pictures taken. G33K-HQ:
How does Facebook/social media influence your costume making and character selection?
Agent Topanga: Social media has never actually compelled me to make or choose any certain characters; I choose those on my own terms. It does, however, help me share my love of this hobby with all of my friends.
G33K-HQ: Do you have a dream cosplay?
Agent Topanga: Either Scarlet Witch from Marvel comics or Batwoman from DC comics.
G33K-HQ: What is your personal favorite cosplay you have done?
Agent Topanga: Definitely Dr. Mrs. The Monarch! I went through hell with that costume but I’m so proud of pushing myself to use sewing methods I never used before, and for stepping out of my comfort zone with such a ‘bold’ costume. I feel damn proud and sexy in that costume!
G33K-HQ: Most memorable moment whilst cosplaying?
Agent Topanga: Yes, of course! Problem solving is something that can go into making even the simplest of costumes. That’s why I try to plan early and always bring a sewing repair kit to cons with me.
G33K-HQ: Do you have one piece of advice that you would give to cosplay virgins?
Agent Topanga: Always cosplay for YOURSELF. And planning ahead of time helps too. 🙂
G33K-HQ: What is your dream con to go to and why?
Agent Topanga: Either Katsucon or Colossalcon. Both locations are gorgeous, and who wouldn’t want to go to a con that’s also a water park?!
G33K-HQ: If you could be any character in your fave story who would that be and which story? (like I’d be Spiderman in the Civil Wars series)
Agent Topanga: I really like Trilby from the Wet Moon comics; she’s really outgoing and quirky.
G33K-HQ: What is your earliest geek memory?
Agent Topanga: Obsessively watching any and every X-Men cartoon currently on tv.
G33K-HQ: Do you consider yourself a “geek”?
Yes, absolutely! G33K-HQ:
What does the word “geek” mean to you?
Agent Topanga: To me, being a geek is all about your undying passion for something. Whether it’s comic books, sports, cooking, or cosplay. It can be anything, really. I feel like everyone is a ‘geek’ about something.
G33K-HQ: Money is no object, what geek collectible you would purchase? (real Batmobile, Superman #1, etc.)
Agent Topanga: I’d like a replica Portal gun or Buffy’s Slayer scythe.
G33K-HQ: Can you share with us any future cosplays you are planning?
Agent Topanga: Currently I’m working on Stocking’s police uniform from Panty & Stocking, as well as Haruko Haruhara from FLCL and Franky from One Piece.
