Do you remember the “Doctor Who” rumors about a new companion joining the Doctor and Clara? For a while, whispers around the Internet assumed it would be Tom Wald, a fellow teacher at Coal Hill. Well, it looks like that might have been half-right, as Cinemablend reports that actor Samuel Anderson has been cast as a new recurring character.
Anderson will play Danny Pink, a previously unseen character. He, too, is a teacher at Coal Hill School, so the Doctor may yet again be traveling with a pair of teachers from there, like he did back when the first Doctor and Susan took off.
At the moment, that’s all we really know about the new character and his role, but he’ll be joining Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman when the new season of “Doctor Who” airs later this year. In the meantime, Moffat and Anderson have offered a few words about the new addition to the show.
“For the fourth time in Doctor Who history, Coal Hill School is coming to the aid of the TARDIS,” Moffat proclaimed. “In 1963, teachers Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright accompanied the first Doctor. These days it’s the turn of Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald. And very soon now, Sam Anderson as Danny Pink will be entering the world of the Doctor. But how and why? Answers are coming later this year in Peter Capaldi’s first season of Doctor Who!”
Anderson himself appears more than eager to appear, stating: “I was so excited to join ‘Doctor Who’ I wanted to jump and click my heels, but I was scared I might not come down before filming started! It’s a quintessential part of British culture and I can’t believe I’m part of it. It’s an honor to be able to work alongside Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman and I can’t wait to show people how my character becomes involved with such a fantastic duo!”
Although season 8 is still months away, filming has been underway and pictures from it have occasionally been finding their way onto the internet. There’s undoubtedly more news to come, so you can count on us at G33k-HQ to keep you updated on the latest in Doctor Who news.
