Sinnoh Confirmed: Pokemon Announces “Brilliant Diamond,” “Shining Pearl,” and “Pokemon Legends: Arceus”

After The Pokemon Company released the remakes of Ruby and Sapphire in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire on the Nintendo 3DS, fans assumed it was only a matter of time until the 4th generation games (Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum) received the same.

Those predictions have come to pass, as the latest Pokemon Presents has announced Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl for the Nintendo Switch. Along with that, they announced a new style of game, titled Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl editions are remakes of the fourth generation Pokemon games, Diamond and Pearl, for the Nintendo Switch. In the original games, players would travel the Sinnoh region, battling gym leaders and Team Galactic, who sought the power of Pokemon who could control time and space.

The Switch remake uses chibi-style characters more reminiscent of the original Nintendo DS designs, while still utilizing the Nintendo Switch’s graphics. While Pokemon Sword and Shield featured larger, more detailed character designs, these designs appear to be an homage to the Nintendo DS style of gameplay.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will release later this year.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus

An unexpected announcement is another new game called Pokemon Legends: Arceus. This game is set in the past of the Sinnoh region, in a time when civilization was growing and learning to live in harmony with Pokemon.

The game shows a more open world style of gameplay, where players can explore, sneak, and discover Pokemon on a wide map. The gameplay video shows trainers capturing Pokemon without needing to engage them in battle as they appear on the map, but there is still the option to fight Pokemon to make capturing easier.

As the name suggests, the video ends by showing Arceus, said to be the god of Pokemon. Also of note is that players are still provided a starter Pokemon, but the options are from multiple generations of games: Rowlet, Cyndaquil, or Oshawott.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is set to be released in early 2022

New Pokemon Snap

Last but not least, we got to look at the upcoming New Pokemon Snap. This new video shows off the graphics and gameplay of the video, including Pokemon at play and how players can edit and share their photos.
