D&D’s next adventure anthology: “Journey Through the Radiant Citadel”

Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition is ready to take players out of the Forgotten Realms and into the multiverse with a new adventure anthology: “Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel.” This new book contains 13 adventures set across worlds, all tied to a magical city within the Ethereal Plane.

“Through the mists of the Ethereal Plane shines the Radiant Citadel. Travelers from across the multiverse flock to this mysterious bastion to share their traditions, stories, and calls for heroes. A crossroads of wonders and adventures, the Radiant Citadel is the first step on the path to legend. Where will your journeys take you?”

The new book contains 13 adventures, designed to take characters from level 1 through 14, similar to previous adventure anthologies like “Candlekeep Mysteries.” While each one can be enjoyed as a one-shot, they’re all connected through their ties to the Radiant Citadel, “a new location on the Ethereal Plane that connects adventurers to richly detailed and distinct corners of the D&D multiverse.”

The description also states that “Each adventure can be set in any existing D&D campaign setting or on worlds of your own design.” The Citadel contains 15 gems connected to its founding civilizations, but most of the gems are missing, allowing DMs more freedom in what worlds they link to the Citadel.

Additionally, “Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel” is the first D&D book to be penned entirely by people of color. According to design co-lead Ajit George and Polygon, “I pitched the idea of a book [filled with] lands and cultures inspired by their own lives, background, and history.” So for those who feel like Faerun’s medieval fantasy has grown old, these new locations can come as a breath of fresh air.

“Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel” will be released June 21, 2022, including an alternate cover available in-store only. You can get it online, including on Roll20 and D&D Beyond, or at your friendly local game store.
