Disney’s D23 convention is always filled with major announcements, and D23 2026 was no exception. This year’s big announcements included new movies, sequels, Marvel, Star Wars, Kingdom Hearts, and more, so without further ado, let’s take a look at the biggest news from D23.
Marvel
While San Diego Comic Con included major announcements for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel held some back to announce at D23.
First, there was a new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, showing Doctor Doom in action, complete with ominous voiceovers and narration.
Next, there was a trailer for VisionQuest. Not only is this bringing back Paul Bettany as the Vision, but James Spader makes a surprising return as Ultron (or some version thereof). We also get our first look at Tommy Maximoff/Speed (played by Ruaridh Mollica), following the setup for his rebirth in Agatha All Along.
For X-Men fans, D23 had a major announcement, with the introduction of the new cast of mutants. This includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey (following her appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day), Christopher Abbot as Professor Xavier, Kit Connor as Scott Summers/Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister (or, as they announced at the panel, Nathaniel Milbury).
Star Wars
Disney isn’t letting up on the Star Wars news either, with two new trailer drops.
First, we got a look at Ahsoka season 2, featuring Rosario Dawson returning as Ahsoka, along with the Force ghost of Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen).
We also got a new teaser for Star Wars: Starfighter, starring Ryan Gosline as Kade Auberon. Starfighter is set to be a standalone movie, set in an unexplored era of the Star Wars universe, and reportedly won’t include any legacy characters (Skywalker or otherwise).
Kingdom Hearts
Kingdom Hearts fans have a lot to celebrate, as we’ve received more news about the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 4, as well as a new announcement.
The Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer previewed a stage set in the world of Coco, which will apparently tie into Sora’s disappearance as Mickey, Donald, and Goofy search for him. An extended gameplay trailer showed off more of the world, cutscenes, and action, giving players more to look forward to.
Along with the game trailer, D23 featured an announcement for a new Kingdom Hearts anime, developed in partnership with Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix. This series will air on Disney+, and features a brand new story that expands on the Kingdom Hearts universe.
New Movies
Of course, Disney isn’t done making new movies yet. D23 featured announcements for two new films: Clay and Ghost Market.
Clay starts Kieran Culkin as Flip, an unwilling mentor assigned to mentor a young ball of clay named Mushy. It’s directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn, and will hit theaters November 22, 2028.
Ghost Market is an upcoming Pixar film, slated for a 2028 release. According to Pixar chief content officer Pete Doctor, the film is inspired by Asian myths of “stores where the living and dead interact,” and features a teenager named Kyle who finds a hidden market at “the crossroads of the living and the dead.” It will be directed by Trevor Jimenez, who worked as a story supervisor on Soul and directed the Oscar-nominated short film Weekends.
Upcoming Sequels
Of course, there’s plenty of sequels to look forward to, for better or worse. Upcoming Disney sequels include:
- Zootopia 3 (release date TBA)
- Frozen 3 (2027)
- Coco 2 (2029)
- The Incredibles 3 (2028)
- Lilo & Stitch 2 (live-action) (2028)
- The New Simpsons Movie (2027)
