Nintendo Direct June 2023 Reveals Mario, Pikmin, and More

The latest Nintendo Direct has landed, bringing with it news about upcoming games for players to look forward to. The June 2023 announcements included new announcements for Mario and Pikmin, a new look at the upcoming Pokemon DLC, and more – let’s take a look.

Pokemon DLC

New downloadable content for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has been available for pre-order for a while now, but this Nintendo Direct revealed a new look at the upcoming stories: “The Teal Mask” and “The Indigo Disk.”

In “The Teal Mask,” players will travel to Kitakami, where the Festival of Masks is underway. The storyline brings several Pokemon back into the game, while introducing a handful of new ones: Munkidori, Okidogi, and Fezandipiti, who were said to have “protected this land from the evil ogre.” Savvy viewers will recognize this as a parallel to the story of Momotaro, with the three Pokemon based on Momotaro’s companions. The video also gives us a closer look at said ogre, a new Pokemon called Ogerpon.

“The Indigo Disk” takes the players to Blueberry Academy, a Pokemon academy floating out at sea. Beneath the academy itself is a massive terrarium park, filled with different biomes and Pokemon previously unavailable in the game. It also reintroduces double battles to the game, and provides a closer look at the legendary Pokemon, Terapagos.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players can also receive a handful of items with the Mystery Gift code TREASUREHUNT, and a new Gimmighoul tera raid event has begun.

Detective Pikachu Returns

While the original Detective Pikachu game was a mostly forgotten side game, it returned to the forefront of popularity with the live action movie, starring Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu and Justice Smith as Tim Goodman. Now, Detective Pikachu is returning with a Nintendo Switch game: Detective Pikachu Returns.
